Walking

The Yorkshire dales offers some of the best walking routes in the country with the paths through the valleys, across the moors and up to the breathtaking summits; Low Mill is the ideal location for walking.

Mill Gill Walk, leaving straight from the Centre and through the fields, we will look at the history of our local village and surroundings.  With Mill Gill flowing straight through the grounds of the Centre, we follow the gill up and stop by the old mill further up and learn about its history; continuing on to visit Mill Gill Force, a beautiful waterfall hidden into the hillside of Wensleydale.  This circular route leads up onto the Low Straits with a gentle decent back into Askrigg.

Fossils & Minerals Walk: This walk starts with a five minute bus journey just out of Askrigg, following a small stream bed up the hillside passing the old water works and some mine entrances finishing off at the main operating area of the old mining works.  Take in the history of the mining culture as we go off in small teams to find our very own fossils and minerals around; we may find some of the old mining tools too.

However if you wish to get further into the countryside, Addlebrough can be seen from the Centre itself and Penhill is just a ten Minute drive away.  If you are after something a little bigger, the Yorkshire Three Peaks are all accessible by a thirty minute journey so you can take on Ingleborough, Whernside or Pen-y-ghent.

However if it’s not the summit views you’re after: Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Force are all just on our doorstep.
