The ‘Friends of Low Mill' Charity Dinner at Simonstone Hall, 28th April 2012, looks set to become an annual event. The food was delicious, the company fabulous and we were treated to a great after dinner speech by returning Low Mill instructor, Neale Connolly. He described his 9 week expedition to the Arctic with a group of young explorers, the challenges they faced, the life or death skills they had to develop, their contributions to science and most importantly the chance of a lifetime experience. The young people he was leading often received their first glimpses into outdoor education, and developed a thirst for adventure and exploration at centres just like Low Mill.
There was a prize draw with kind donations from Simonstone, Ginger Tree, Kings Arms Askrigg, Wensleydale Creamery, Judith Bromley, Bear Cottage Interiors, Low Mill and Ruth Farrow; followed by dancing into the early hours! In total, approximately £800 was raised for the charity.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of our guests, Emma Thwaite and her team at Simonstone Hall, Richard Feather for the disco, all who contributed to the prize draw and of course, Neale Connolly for his inspirational and entertaining words.
